According to ancient Jain literature, this is a very ancient shrine. In Satyug, this town was known as Bhramapur, in Tretayug it was known as Agnikhet, in Swaparyug it was Hiranyapur and in Kaliyug it was Hiranyapur and in Kaliyug it was Tulkhet according to Padmapuran. In “Puratan Brahmakshetra”, there is a mention that at some time in the past, there were existing here several Digamber temples also. In a local ancient Vav called Aditi, there is a stone inscription dated Vikram year 1256. It looks as if this ancient shrine has seen rise and fall several times. It is believed that the present temple is more that 500 years old. This place has great importance as it is very ancient. Here there exists also temple of Sri Hatkeshvar Mahadev. Hindus too consider this as their holy place. From the town about a Km away there is a temple of Goddess AMbahi and it is said that at the time of its repairs, while digging, several Jain idols were discovered from under the earth out of which one idol was even of Goddess Ambaji which was installed in the temple after due consecration ceremonies believing the same to be an ancient one. It is inferred that one here may be existing a large temple of Sri Neminath Bhagwan and this idol of Sri Ambaji, she being his guardian deity may have been installed in that temple. The idols of Shri Mahavir Bhagwan and Sri Adinath Bhagwan are worth seeing. Besides, near Sri Hatkeshvar Mahadev and Sri Ambaji temple many relics of ancient art which are formed important parts of ancient temples are seen scattered even at present from which it is evident that this place is of great antiquity.Besides these two temples one of Sri Mahavir Bhagwan and the other of Sri Adinath Bhagwan, there are no other temples here or nearby area.
