History

This idol is believed to have been discovered buried under a mound nearby during the period between 17th and 19th century. The idol looks very ancient, quiet, beautiful and impressive. As soon as the idol was discovered, a magnificent temple was built and the idol installed ceremoniously. The manifestation of this idol was accompanied by a miraculous incident. It is believed that a cow of a certain family of a low caste was not yielding any milk. On enquiries, it was ascertained that the cow used to stand on a nearby spot on a mound and all her milk used to ooze out there. The owners of the cow tried their best to prevent her from going to that spot but they did not succeed in their attempts. Then began arising in the minds of the owners several kinds of doubts and fears. Nothing came clear, finally the mound was dug open and this idol of Sri Mahavir Bhagwan was discovered. With great humility, devotion and caution the idol was taken out and the lucky family felt itself greatly fulfilled. The news spread far and wide and crowds of devotees started to gather at that spot. The mere sight of the Lord satisfied the wishes and ambitions of those who came and day-by-day the number of people went on increasing. At last this magnificent temple was built and with due sanctification ceremonies, the idol was installed therein. Even this date thousands of devotees visit the temple every day and according to them the mere visit gives them peace never experienced before and fulfils all their dreams. The annual fair is held here between Chaitra Sukla 13 and Vaishakh Krishna 1. Both Jains and non-Jains such as Min, Gujar, Jat etc., visit this shrine during the fair in thousands and offer their tears of devotion by way of flowers in worship of Bhagwan. Having been impressed by the extra-ordinariness of this shrine, there is a record that kings of Jaipur have donated the village of Alamgirpur-Naurangabad towards the maintenance cost of the shrine such as ceremonial worships, ghee lamps, incense burning etc., The spot where the idol was discovered has been converted into a small structure with a roof and the Lords Foot-Prints enshrined there. The style and architecture of the temple are pleasing to the eyes and the cluster of sikhars gives an idea of a divine city from afar.
